Safeguarding

Safeguarding at John Bunyan Primary and Nursery School

The safety and wellbeing of our pupils is our highest priority. At our school, safeguarding underpins everything we do and is firmly rooted in our values of Kindness, Resilience, Achievement and Pride. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where every child feels valued, listened to and able to thrive.

We promote a strong culture of Kindness and respect, where positive relationships ensure pupils feel safe and confident to share any worries or concerns with trusted adults. Through our curriculum and wider school life, we actively develop pupils’ Resilience, teaching them how to keep themselves safe, manage risk and make informed choices. When children feel safe and supported, they are better able to focus on their Achievement and take Pride in themselves, their learning and their school community.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. All staff and governors receive regular safeguarding and child protection training and are vigilant in identifying and responding to concerns. Our safeguarding procedures are robust, follow statutory guidance and are reviewed regularly to ensure they reflect current legislation and best practice. We work closely with families and external agencies to ensure that pupils receive the right support at the right time.

Designated Safeguarding Leads

Our school has a dedicated safeguarding team to ensure concerns are dealt with promptly and effectively.

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Mrs Waters

  • Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead(s): Mrs Ledwith, Mrs Nicholls, Mrs Thatcher and Mrs Powell

Any safeguarding concerns are recorded, monitored and followed up in line with our safeguarding and child protection policies.

Online Safety

Keeping children safe online is an essential part of our safeguarding responsibility. We teach pupils how to use technology safely, responsibly and respectfully through our curriculum and assemblies. This includes understanding how to stay safe online, recognise risks and to know where to seek help. We also work closely with parents and carers to promote consistent messages about online safety at home and at school.

Working in Partnership with Parents

We believe safeguarding works best when school and home work together. We encourage parents and carers to share any concerns with us, no matter how small they may seem. By working in partnership, we can ensure that every child feels safe, supported and inspired to achieve their full potential with purpose and pride.
