PE and Sports premium

PE and Sport Premium at John Bunyan Primary School and Nursery

At our school, we believe that physical activity plays a vital role in supporting pupils’ health, wellbeing and personal development. Our PE and Sport Premium funding is used to enhance the quality of physical education and sport, ensuring that all pupils develop the skills, confidence and motivation to lead active and healthy lives. This work is underpinned by our values of Kindness, Resilience, Achievement and Pride.

We promote Achievement by providing high-quality PE lessons and a wide range of sporting opportunities that allow pupils to develop physical skills, confidence and competence. Through inclusive and engaging provision, pupils are encouraged to challenge themselves and experience success. We build Resilience by supporting pupils to persevere, work as part of a team and respond positively to challenge.

Our approach is rooted in Kindness and inclusion. We ensure that all pupils, including those who may face barriers to participation, are supported to take part fully in PE and sport. Activities are adapted where needed, and positive relationships, respect and sportsmanship are actively promoted. We encourage Pride by celebrating participation, effort and achievement in physical activity, both in school and through inter-school events and competitions.

PE and Sport Premium funding is used strategically to improve the quality of teaching, increase participation and create sustainable improvements to PE and sport across the school. This includes staff training, high-quality resources and enrichment opportunities. The impact of our spending is regularly reviewed by school leaders and governors to ensure it is making a measurable difference to pupils’ physical development, wellbeing and engagement in physical activity.

How Parents Can Support at Home

We recognise that positive attitudes towards physical activity are strengthened when school and home work together. Parents and carers can support their child by:

  • Encouraging regular physical activity and active play outside of school

  • Supporting participation in clubs, teams or community sports where possible

  • Promoting healthy lifestyles, including the importance of physical activity for wellbeing

  • Celebrating effort, teamwork and perseverance as well as success

By working in partnership, we aim to develop confident, resilient and active learners who take pride in maintaining healthy and active lifestyles.
