Larches Bread Making/Tasting

Larches Class - Bread Making Day (Design and Technology)

This term, Larches have been exploring bread as part of their D&T topic.

We started by finding out how bread is made, following the ingredients from the farm to the bakery and finally into the shops. The children then enjoyed exploring where different breads come from and even discovered that Croissants come from Austria!

As part of our planning process, we tested different breads that are currently on the market. From this market research, the children designed their own bread rolls, including some interesting flavour combinations – banana and chocolate chip; cheese and garlic; cheese, garlic and rosemary and even banana and strawberry!

Larches then spent the morning working in teams to make and bake their bread rolls. Finally, they put on a class bread tasting afternoon where they each tried their different creations. Surprisingly, the favourites turned out to be cheese and garlic, closely followed by chocolate chip! The children carefully evaluated the different breads, providing thoughtful feedback for each one. Above all, they thoroughly enjoyed eating all the bread they made. The class were inspired by our topic, and many went home wanting to try to make some new flavours.

Please enjoy these photos of Larches trying their creations.
