  • John Bunyan hosts the Braintree Cultural Diversity Project sharing workshop.

    Published 31/05/22, by Juniper Education

John Bunyan Primary hosted a teacher sharing event of the Braintree Cultural Diversity Project on Wednesday 25th May.

Seven schools took part in the five-month Project which had the following aims:

    · For young people to understand other cultures and traditions.

    · To develop understanding of classroom practise and how to communicate new concepts to young people.

    · To give young people a practical experience of other cultures.

    · To develop teaching ideas that mean that learning is embedded in school practise and the impact on the young people is not limited to one experience

    · To consider empathetic responses to learning from young people

Children from seven schools took part in lessons and workshops delivered by professional musicians from across the world, with the aim of broadening the children’s understanding of other cultures.

Some Year 5 John Bunyan children were fortunate enough to attend a workshop by the renowned kora player, teacher and composer, Josh Doughty. Children were excited to have a go at playing the instrument in the workshop and were amazed by the rich history of kora music and its origins.

The project was funded by Essex Music Education Hub.

  • Jubilee fun!

    Published 31/05/22, by Juniper Education

The whole school had great fun on Thursday celebrating the Queen's jubilee. Some of the children and staff dressed up as kings and queens and also in red, white and blue. We made some fantastic castles, table decorations and cake decorations and the children also performed in the "arena". We were also lucky to have the farm and different stalls and games like hook a duck and pin the tail on the corgi! Here are some of the photos from the day.

  • Year six residential

    Published 16/05/22, by Juniper Education

What a fantastic week residential was! An incredible experience that allowed the children to develop their confidence, resilience, and life skills tremendously across the week; alongside following the code of conduct throughout. The staff and service that was provided by Kingswood was phenomenal; the activities were incredible (side-by-side, aeroball, abseiling to name a few) and the experience of visiting the highest point in Norfolk (Beeston Bump) at night to observe the stars was a great thing to do as a whole year group together. A huge thank you to all of the staff that took the children and we look forward to next year already!

  • We are meteorologists

    Published 02/03/22, by Juniper Education

In year 4, in computing, we learnt how to be meteorologists. We made a weather station and from this we understood different measurement techniques for weather, both analogue and digital. We used computer-based data logging to automate the recording of some weather data. We also used spreadsheets to create charts analyse data, explore inconsistencies in data and make predictions.

The fun part was being weathermen - we presented the weather to the class, just like they do on telly.

  • Out of This World!

    Published 17/02/22, by Juniper Education

Year 5 have had a great couple of days with visits from the Astrodome and Mr. Huxter who brought his virtual reality equipment into school.

On the 3rd February we were very lucky to have the Astrodome come into the school to complement our topic of out of this world. We found out about our universe and how it works. Some of the comments from the children were – “Wow,” “that was fantastic,” “I have never seen anything like that before” and “I have found out lots about our universe.”

Last Friday, Mr. Huxter came in with his VR equipment and we were able to experience roller coasters, bungee jumps and different rides from theme parks – it was great. Here are some of the pictures with the VR kit on.
