Year 3 Trip to Danbury Country Park

Year 3 have had a fabulous day exploring nature at Danbury Country Park!

Year 3 have enjoyed a wonderful day out at Danbury Country Park learning all about plants, creatures, habitats, soils and more as part of their Science topic this term.

The children took part in a range of different activities throughout the day to better understand the different habitats of the natural world.

There was lake dipping where the children worked in teams to find out which animals and creatures live in a water habitat. There were some interesting finds, including leeches, tadpoles, water fleas, mayfly nymphs and more. It was exciting to see creatures we had never seen before.

The children also explored woodland and stream habitats when bug hunting. They learnt about the important things that animals need to live – water, food, shelter and air. The children had a wonderful time wading through streams, digging in the mud, and turning over logs to find the hidden creatures of our wonderful woodland habitats. We found lots of interesting creatures and found many caterpillars, which ended up all over our clothes. One class went on a successful frog hunt while another found a fossil in one of the rocks in the stream!

The children were encouraged to think about different shelters that animals may need and how we can create and protect them. They had great fun in the forest, building animal dens. They even had a go at making giant dens for themselves. There were some thoughtful designs, with one den even having a place to toast your marshmallows!

Additionally, during the day, the children created a piece of butterfly art to take home using a piece of material, a rock, a hard surface and some leaves. Leaves were placed in the middle of the material and rubbed to release the juices to create a picture. This was great fun and resulted in some unique pieces of art.

Year 3 had a wonderful day in the sun, exploring the natural world and are all now very tired after a day of fun!
